LIVE WEBSITE

Work done this week:

A big week has just passed, I have finished off the screencast for wordpress and on Friday i was given the all clear to set the website LIVE.

I began the process Saturday of moving all the files across to the server which points at

http://www.foreshore-dynamic.com

Check it out now!

I ran into a few problems involving permalinks and .htaccess mod-rewrite but luckily enough i was able to figure out the issues quite easily.

All pages are working on the new server and so far we have no serious issues.

Work to be done:

Completion of documentation for Assignment.

Testing & Implementing

Work done this week:

The website is now 100% completed, with content! Its now also been through the testing phase which came out positive. There were a few small errors which we were able to fix with ease.

Below are 2 reports of the 5 users that tested the website:

Name:
Renee
Age: 23
Date tested: 29/4/2010
Report: Overall great layout, i was able to navigate quite easily across all the pages, i did notice however the home link was not working but i was able to get back to the home page by clicking the logo anyway. The images seemed good quality but with my slow internet they did take a little while to load. The flash movie also took a little while too. From what i read the grammar and spelling seemed fine, only a couple of little mistakes which appear to be fixed now anyway.

Name:
Tom
Age: 20
Date tested: 29/4/2010
Report: Everything appear to be working from what i could see. I wasn't sure about the text size though.. It appeared a little small. Loving the product page!

The screen-cast has also begun which will provide instructions on how to manage and edit pages.

Work to be done:

Finish the screencast and then have a final meeting with the client to present the website and provide some last minute training aside of the screencast.

Massive Update!

Whats been happening:

Its Been a month since the last blog post but we have been very busy pushing through the back end programming to get the site up and running.

Currently the website development stage is approximately 90% complete. All the pages are working with the wordpress CMS however there are some minor fixes and bugs that need to be addressed.

Currently we have spent 109 hours on the project which was originally quoted at 128. We estimate approx another 10-20 hours is left to finish the project which would put us very close to our original estimate.

Click to text Below to see some screenshots which show the back end with the front end of the design.

The intro flash movie has been completed..

The wordpress Login Screen

The Pages to be edited

Editing the About company page

The About company page

The Contact Page

Work to be done:

There are still a few little tweaks to be finished but overall the development stage has been completed and we are entering the final stage of the project. The Implementation phase. We are currently working on a screen-cast which can be submitted with the website which shows the client how to use the back-end for editing content. (We estimate that the project may be ready to give to the client next Friday(8/5/10).

(Before this is done we will first be submitting it to Ron to ensure we havn't left anything important out).

Stay Tuned.

week 4 progress

Work Completed:
4 weeks since project approval and there has been some good progress in design & development.

The index or home page is completed with drop down navigation working smoothly. We have set this page up for sampling on my own webspace..
Please take a look at the progress here

The biggest challenge so far has been to ensure the website is cross browser and platform supported. While it was not a client requirement to begin with we have consulted with the client and both agreed on making it cross-browser friendly to ensure the site would work across ie6-ie8 and Firefox, Safari & Chrome.

Using statistics provided on the w3 consortium we found there is still a large number of web users using ie6 (11%).

Further to this we spent awhile configuring the drop-down menu's which was something new to us. There is a javascript add-on called jquery which we used to make this work. Installing this simply meant creating source code to find the code src="Scripts/jquery-1.3.1.min.js Furthur to this i had to construct my navigation in such a way that it would work with the actual javascript code for the dropdown. This was not as easy as i thought and ended up taking up a lot more time then anticipated.

Using divs rather then tables was a good learning curve and for me and i also found that divs are much easier to organise and style using external style sheets. Photoshop allows for auto-slice and save for web but in my case as i was using css i had to manually crop and save each of the images i would use to the image folder.

Work to be completed:
There is still quite a lot of tweaking to the style of the site but overall we are just about ready to move into the deep programming side of the Content management System. (The biggest part of the project).

Steady Week (15th-21st March)

This week i spent getting everything ready to move into the development stage.

After a meeting with the client we were able to come to an agreement on an idea for the design.. The design would prove challenging but the final result would be worth it.

Heres a small preview of the site:

click for larger..

The next task was to finalised the pages with most of this already underway. The base of the back end has been created to ensure the design of the site can be programmed smoothly when needed.

Work to be done:

The development stage will really need to start moving as their is much work to be done. The pages will need to be finished and may even require style-guides to further show the client. Once these designs are completed the programming can start to progress.

Busy but progressful Week (8th - 14th March)

Work done this week:

Having received the approval from the client i was able to begin the research on other websites and come up with some ideas to show the client. I also put together a few sketches with some of my own ideas to show to the client on Saturday the 13th.

The client meeting went well, both of us agreeing on an idea through brainstorming and looking over the research. The client wanted a prototype for the next meeting which has been scheduled for Monday afternoon (2pm).

Work to be done:

As the client meeting is for Monday afternoon i will be spending most of Tonight (Sunday) & Monday morning finishing a prototype and coming up with some style guides for the different pages.

Project Begins! Week (1st - 7th March)

With the approval of the client we can now start working on the project.

Work done this week:

During this week we came up with the proposal and put it forward to the client who undoubtedly accepted. We then went over brainstorming ideas and came up with the concept.

Work to be done:

We will need to conduct a little more research on the competitors site and also come up with some sketches to put forward to the client. These sketches will show the layout and where the key items on the site will be placed.
